e7Tr — Introduction#

Every functioning society needs people in all seven roles. Each role is a different way of contributing to the whole, and each faces a specific BABL temptation that can corrupt the contribution. The roles are named after the seven nations of Canaan, reinterpreted as functional archetypes: not ethnic groups but structural positions that any society generates.

An eighth role (ISR, the Israelite = RealityWrestler) is the meta-role: someone who can serve in any of the seven when needed, wrestling with Reality rather than settling into a single track.

Each role aligns with one of the Beatitudes (Mt. 5), reframed here not as passive blessings but as active encouragement for someone trying to overcome their localized variant of BABL.

The Seven Roles#

Role 1 — AMO: AMOrite (TopSpeaker, PowerElite, Influencer)#

Binary: 001 = — — BA

The role: The leaders, speakers, and influencers. Those who set direction, make public decisions, and shape what others believe is possible. Every society has them; the question is whether they lead toward life or toward BABL.

The BABL temptation: BA alone — oversimplify. The PowerElite’s constant temptation is to declare complex problems “simple” by authority alone. “Trust me, I know.” This feels decisive but destroys the nuance that genuine solutions require.

Beatitude encouragement: KnowNot: stay poor in spirit — True leadership begins with admitting you do not have all the answers, not with pretending you do. The leader who says “I don’t know yet” opens the door to genuine solutions. The one who says “it’s obvious” closes it.

Role 2 — HIT: HITtite (FearHandler, RiskReducer, Fighter)#

Binary: 010 = — ASH

The role: The protectors, risk managers, and fighters. Those who face fear on behalf of others, who stand between danger and the community. Soldiers, firefighters, security analysts, insurance actuaries — anyone whose job is to manage what could go wrong.

The BABL temptation: ASH alone — overcomplicate. The FearHandler’s constant temptation is to amplify fear by making threats seem more complex and numerous than they are. This justifies their own importance but paralyzes everyone else. “You wouldn’t understand the risks” is the FearHandler’s LIE.

Beatitude encouragement: Mourn, to heal — The courage to face fear and grief head-on, rather than numbing it or weaponizing it, is what makes a protector rather than a bully. The fighter who mourns the cost of fighting earns the trust of those they protect.

Role 3 — CAN: CANaanite (ProfitTrader, Distributor, Dealer)#

Binary: 011 = — ASH BA

The role: The traders, merchants, and distributors. Those who create wealth by connecting supply with demand, by moving things from where they are to where they are needed.

The BABL temptation: ASH + BA — overcomplicate the deal AND oversimplify the ethics. “It’s just business” (BA) combined with impenetrable contract complexity (ASH) that hides exploitation behind legalese.

Beatitude encouragement: AllowOthers to inherit in open — Genuine trade creates wealth for everyone at the table, not just the dealer. The open hand inherits more than the closed fist. The trader who allows others to prosper builds a network that outlasts any single deal.

Role 4 — PHE: PHEresite (OpenDecider, PureExpert, Reviewer)#

Binary: 100 = MOL — —

The role: The experts, judges, and reviewers. Those who assess quality, make technical decisions, and determine what meets the standard. Scientists, auditors, editors, referees.

The BABL temptation: MOL alone — overreach. The Expert’s constant temptation is to claim more authority than their expertise warrants. “Trust the science” becomes “trust the scientist” becomes “the scientist decides for you.” Expertise is real; the overreach is using expertise in one domain to claim authority in all domains.

Beatitude encouragement: Yearn4Justice, to be satisfied — The expert who hungers for what is right, not merely what is technically correct, will find satisfaction that clever answers never provide. Justice exceeds correctness.

Role 5 — JEB: JEBusite (Stampeder, RuleFollowingAdmin, Serve)#

Binary: 101 = MOLBA

The role: The administrators, bureaucrats, and rule-enforcers. Those who keep systems running, who process applications, who stamp approvals. The machinery of organized society.

The BABL temptation: MOL + BA — overreach authority AND oversimplify people. “Just follow the rules” (BA) combined with “I decide who gets through” (MOL). The bureaucrat who stamps without seeing the person behind the form has become the stamp.

Beatitude encouragement: Empathize, to get mercy — The administrator who enforces rules with empathy earns the mercy of those they serve. Rules exist for people, not the other way around. The one who stamps with feeling serves; the one who stamps without feeling oppresses.

Role 7 — GIR: GIRgashite (CrushedDust, IgnoredOthered, Suffer)#

Binary: 111 = MOL ASH BA

The role: Those who have been crushed by the system. The ignored, the othered, the suffering. Every society produces them; their existence is the measure of the system’s failure. GIR is the role that no one chooses but that the system assigns to those it cannot or will not accommodate.

The BABL temptation: Full BABL — all three simultaneously. The crushed face every temptation at once: to oversimplify their suffering into bitterness (BA), to overcomplicate their situation into paralysis (ASH), and to overreach into vengeance (MOL). The full weight of BABL bears down on those who have least.

Beatitude encouragement: MakePeace, to belong — Those who have been crushed and ignored know the cost of conflict better than anyone. When they choose to make peace rather than take revenge, they find the belonging that violence can never provide. This is the hardest and most heroic choice of all.
