e7He — Overview for Beginners#

What is this?#

The e7He model is a mathematical formalization of the hero journey — the age-old pattern of growth through challenge, crisis, and return. It models this journey as a structure built on 14 axioms (7 prerequisites and 7 stage-specific), 7 theorems, and 3 structural properties. The “e7” stands for seven stages; the “He” stands for Hero. Where storytellers have described the hero journey in narrative terms, e7He proposes a precise mathematical framework that can be tested, challenged, and — if it survives scrutiny — built upon.

Why does it matter?#

Everyone faces temptation to distort reality. The model names three fundamental distortions and groups them under the acronym BABL: BA (oversimplifying — collapsing complexity into a comfortable lie), ASH (overcomplicating — burying truth under unnecessary layers), and MOL (overreaching — grasping for control beyond one’s legitimate scope). These are not exotic failures reserved for villains. They are ordinary, everyday pressures that every person encounters. The friend who avoids a hard conversation is yielding to BA. The committee that buries a clear problem under endless process is yielding to ASH. The leader who quietly expands their authority beyond what was entrusted is yielding to MOL. Most of the damage done in the world comes not from dramatic evil but from these quiet, incremental surrenders.

The e7He model proposes that the hero journey maps these temptations systematically. Each of the seven stages confronts the hero with a specific combination of BA, ASH, and MOL. Completing the full cycle with integrity produces growth in what the model calls Ie (insight energy). Stopping partway — giving in to the temptation at any stage — produces stagnation, decay, or, in the worst case, a slow corruption that the person may not even notice. The model proposes that this is not a metaphor: it is a testable structural claim about how growth and corruption actually work.

The seven stages in plain language#

Stage 1 — ACD: Adventure Calls: Dare#

Binary: 001 = BA. The journey begins when the hero hears a call — a problem, an opportunity, an itch that will not go away. The temptation is BA alone: oversimplify the call away. “It’s not for me.” “Someone else will handle it.” Overcoming means daring to accept complexity instead of retreating into comfortable excuses.

Stage 2 — TTT: Trial Tribulation Training#

Binary: 010 = ASH. Now the hero is in the furnace. Trials arrive: hardship, failure, confusion. The temptation is ASH alone: overcomplicate the difficulty until it looks impossible. “There are too many problems.” “I will never get through this.” Overcoming means enduring — stripping away unnecessary complexity and focusing on the next step rather than the entire mountain.

Stage 3 — GAT: Gain Advantage Temptation#

Binary: 011 = ASH + BA. Early success arrives. The hero gains real skill, recognition, maybe power. Now two temptations combine: BA says “I have figured it out” while ASH says “let me build an empire around this advantage.” Together they turn a genuine gain into a cage. Overcoming means holding the advantage without being captured by it — using it as a tool, not an identity.

Stage 4 — MYM: Meet Your Maker#

Binary: 100 = MOL. The midpoint crisis. All three bits flip (011 to 100, the maximum possible distance), and everything familiar drops away. The hero confronts what exceeds them — infinity, mortality, the absolute limit of their own power. The temptation is MOL alone: overreach by trying to control what cannot be controlled. This is the bifurcation point. Either the false self dies and the hero passes through, or the hero grasps for control and begins a slow, often invisible corruption. Many people pass through this stage without realizing what happened.

Stage 5 — LUC: Lucky Ultimate Reward Comedy#

Binary: 101 = MOL + BA. The hero who passed through Stage 4 receives a gift — insight, ability, or a resource they could not have manufactured. The temptation is MOL + BA: overreach by claiming entitlement to the gift, then oversimplify by ignoring the obligation to share it justly. Overcoming means receiving with gratitude and distributing with fairness, rather than hoarding or pretending the gift was earned alone.

Stage 6 — RES: Rescue Trip To Resurrection#

Binary: 110 = MOL + ASH. The hero must bring the gift back to the community. This is where institutional capture strikes hardest. The temptation is MOL + ASH: overreach by trying to force the gift onto others, then overcomplicate by building self-serving structures around it. Every reformer who became a tyrant failed here. Overcoming means fighting for the gift to reach those who need it, without becoming the very system the journey was meant to challenge.

Stage 7 — FRE: Free Reborn Evolving Better#

Binary: 111 = MOL + ASH + BA. All three BABL temptations are active simultaneously. The hero has faced every combination and now confronts the full weight at once. This is both the hardest stage and the one that completes the inoculation. If the hero resists, the cycle closes: every non-zero BABL combination has been faced exactly once. The hero rests, integrates what was learned, and is ready for the next cycle — because growth, in this model, is perpetual.

The key insight#

The seven stages are not an arbitrary list. They follow binary counting from 001 to 111, with each digit representing one of the three BABL temptations (BA, ASH, MOL). This means every possible non-zero combination of the three distortions appears exactly once across the seven stages. The model calls this structural property sp1 (completeness of the BABL inoculation). It is not a narrative claim — it is a combinatorial fact about three binary digits. The mathematical consequence, as proposed by theorem th1, is that a hero who completes all seven stages has been inoculated against every BABL combination. This structural encoding is what makes the model formally testable rather than merely inspirational.

Where to go next#

  • e7He — Introduction — fuller descriptions of each stage, including the specific temptation patterns and how to overcome them.

  • Silent Corruption — Formal Analysis — a concrete example of what happens when the journey fails at Stage 4 and corruption takes hold silently.

  • e7He — Axioms — the 14 formal axioms that define the model’s foundations.

  • e7He — Theorems — the 7 theorems and 3 structural properties that follow from the axioms.

Epistemic status#

This model is at OOv1: formulated, extracted from working sessions, and internally checked for consistency — but not independently tested. No external review, no adversarial stress-testing, no independent replication has been performed. The e7He model is a proposal. It may contain errors, unstated assumptions, or structural weaknesses that only outside scrutiny will reveal. Treating it as a proven result would be precisely the kind of BA (oversimplification) the model itself warns against. It is offered for examination, not for trust.
