Jubilee: Beyond Capitalism and Communism#

How the PET axiom system’s Jubilee principle (ax25) synthesizes what is true in each of the two dominant secular economic ideologies while correcting what each gets wrong — and why th8 (T-Inno) correctly predicts the failure of both.

Overview#

Capitalism and communism are the two dominant secular economic theories of the 20th century. Each captures a real partial truth. Each is predicted by th8 (T-Inno, Binary Attractors) to eventually fail. The Jubilee principle (ax25) is the synthesis point: it preserves the incentive structure that capitalism gets right while incorporating the redistribution insight that communism gets right, without the violations that doom each ideology to the BABL attractor.

These two ideologies function as a bifurcation of the secular perspective applicable specifically to ax24 (Life-Trifecta), ax25 (Jubilee Recalibration), th8 (T-Inno), and th9 (T-Ergodicity). They cannot speak to the metaphysical axioms ax1–ax14 (they are economic theories, not comprehensive worldviews). For ax15–ax23, the standard seven perspectives apply.

The most important result of examining these two perspectives is not additional support for individual axioms but the empirical testing of th8 (T-Inno): both major secular economic ideologies failed or are failing in exactly the pattern th8 (T-Inno) predicts (structural debt from violating one or two life-trifecta cords compounding until BABL cascade).

Capitalism as Partial Perspective#

Core insight for this system: Individual agency in free markets produces decentralized, adaptive innovation. Price signals are non-coercive guidance. Profit and loss are the accountability mechanism. The entrepreneur is the singular causal agent of economic progress.

ax15 — Human Genuine Agency#

Hayek’s “The Use of Knowledge in Society” (1945) — the fundamental argument for markets is that genuine individual agency distributes dispersed knowledge better than any central authority can access or process. The price system works because agents genuinely choose. Adam Smith’s Wealth of Nations: the invisible hand only works if individual choices are real.

ax17 — Non-Coercive Guidance#

The price mechanism is capitalism’s closest analog to ax17: prices signal where resources are needed without anyone commanding it. No central authority tells you what to produce — the price tells you what the world needs, and you may or may not respond. Hayek called this “spontaneous order.” Friedman: free markets are the only form of large-scale social coordination compatible with genuine human freedom.

ax18 — Responsibility Localization#

Profit and loss are the market’s accountability mechanism — the entrepreneur who makes bad decisions bears the loss; others’ resources are not destroyed by one person’s failure. Schumpeter’s “creative destruction”: failed innovations are cleaned out by competition; responsibility and consequence are co-localized in the same agent.

ax19 — Causal Concentration#

Schumpeter’s entrepreneur as the singular causal agent of economic progress — not incremental improvement but the 0→1 innovation that changes the structure of the market. Peter Thiel’s Zero to One: the unique insight that creates genuinely new value is possessed by singular individuals at specific moments. Austrian economics’ “heroic entrepreneur” is h* in economic terms.

ax24 — Life-Trifecta: Where Capitalism Partially Succeeds and Partially Fails#

  • Stable: The price mechanism is robust — it processes millions of signals simultaneously without central coordination; markets survive shocks that destroy central plans.

  • Extensible: Competitive markets adapt — new entrants, new products, new industries emerge without top-down permission.

  • Life-friendly: This is capitalism’s violated cord. Externalities (pollution, exploitation, inequality) are systematically excluded from price signals. Friedman’s “the social responsibility of business is to increase its profits” (NYT, 1970) is the explicit statement that capitalism optimizes for only one of the three cords. th8 (T-Inno) predicts: this violation accumulates structural debt until BABL cascade.

ax25 — Jubilee Recalibration: Capitalism’s Constitutive Weakness#

Capitalism’s natural tendency is toward accumulation without reset. Schumpeter’s creative destruction is capitalism’s internal pseudo-Jubilee, but it is destruction (old firms die), not redistribution (resources return to those who had none). Antitrust law, progressive taxation, and bankruptcy law are weak Jubilee substitutes — they interrupt accumulation but do not reset opportunity distributions. The venture capital “fund cycle” (10-year funds, mandatory exits) approximates a limited Jubilee for investment capital specifically.

th8 (T-Inno) — Empirical Testing#

The 2008 financial crisis, the Gilded Age, and current wealth concentration are empirical demonstrations of the BABL attractor within a system that violates the life-friendly cord. Piketty’s Capital in the 21st Century (return on capital r consistently exceeds growth rate g, so wealth concentrates indefinitely without external intervention) is precisely the structural debt accumulation th8 (T-Inno) predicts.

th9 (T-Ergodicity) — Capitalism’s Non-Ergodicity Problem#

Capitalism is fundamentally non-ergodic without external intervention — the winner-takes-all dynamic means the time average of individual outcomes diverges permanently from the ensemble average. Piketty’s r>g is the mathematical statement of this. Rawls’s difference principle (in A Theory of Justice) is the liberal capitalist tradition’s internal attempt to impose ergodicity, but it requires non-market intervention — a Jubilee mechanism.

Communism/Socialism as Partial Perspective#

Core insight for this system: The accumulation problem is real and structural, not accidental. Exploitation of labor is a genuine violation of the life-friendly cord. Equality of access to the innovation frontier matters. The diagnosis of what is wrong is largely correct; the proposed solution violates ax17 and ax24.

ax15 — Human Genuine Agency: The Theory-Practice Contradiction#

Marx’s concept of Gattungswesen (species-being/human essence) — alienated labor in capitalist production suppresses genuine human agency; the worker becomes an instrument rather than a creative agent. The theoretical goal of communism (“free development of each as the condition for the free development of all” — Communist Manifesto, final line) actually requires genuine ax15-agency. The failure: historical communism used state coercion to achieve this goal, directly violating ax17 and eliminating the ax15 agency it claimed to liberate. The theory and the implementation contradict each other on the axiom that matters most.

ax24 — Life-Trifecta: Where Communism Partially Succeeds and Decisively Fails#

  • Life-friendly: This is communism’s strongest cord. “From each according to ability, to each according to need” — the explicit design goal is universal care. Soviet achievements in public health, education access, and poverty reduction in the early decades show genuine life-friendly performance where the other cords were not yet fully broken.

  • Stable: First violated cord. Central planning cannot process the information that prices process automatically. Hayek’s “socialist calculation problem” showed that no central authority can acquire and process the dispersed knowledge required to plan a complex economy; the system becomes brittle, producing the shortages and inefficiencies that characterized Soviet life.

  • Extensible: Second violated cord. Without market signals and genuine competitive pressure, the system cannot adapt to new conditions without top-down command. th8 (T-Inno) predicts: violating two cords produces faster BABL cascade than violating one. The 1991 collapse was the sea of destruction.

ax25 — Jubilee: The Correct Diagnosis, Wrong Solution#

This is where communism’s diagnosis most closely overlaps with the axiom system. Marx correctly identified that unlimited accumulation without reset produces the inequality cascade leading to BABL. But communism’s solution differs decisively from Jubilee:

  • Communism: permanent abolition of private property

  • Jubilee: periodic reset while preserving property between rounds

The Jubilee difference is crucial: it preserves the incentive structure (you keep what you earn during the round, motivating ax24-compliant innovation) while resetting accumulated structural advantages. Communism eliminates the incentive structure itself, which collapses the stable cord of ax24. The Chinese Communist Party’s pragmatic partial abandonment of pure communism (“to get rich is glorious” — Deng Xiaoping) implicitly acknowledges that the stable cord requires market incentives even within a collectivist framework.

th8 (T-Inno) — Empirical Testing#

Soviet technology (Sputnik, 1957; nuclear capability) demonstrates that communism can achieve stable+extensible within specific controlled domains (military-industrial complex) when resources are concentrated by command. But applied system-wide, the life-friendly cord collapses first (shortages, gulags, famine), followed by the extensible cord (inability to adapt to computing, consumer technology, global markets), followed by system collapse. th8 (T-Inno) predicted this: you can sustain 2/3 compliance longer than 1/3, but not indefinitely. The 1991 collapse is th8’s (T-Inno) empirical testing.

th9 (T-Ergodicity) — Communism’s Stated Goal vs. Actual Outcome#

Communism’s stated goal — a classless society — is precisely social ergodicity; the vision aligns with th9’s (T-Ergodicity) conclusion. The failure: implementation created a new non-ergodic class (the nomenklatura/party elite). The dictatorship required to suppress the old class structure became a new non-ergodic attractor. The Jubilee mechanism achieves the ergodic goal (periodic reset of accumulated advantage) without requiring the coercive apparatus that creates the new non-ergodic class.

The Jubilee Synthesis#

The Jubilee (ax25) is neither capitalism nor communism. It is the synthesis that takes what each got right and corrects what each got wrong:

From capitalism: the incentive structure — property rights, voluntary exchange, and price signals — provides the stable and extensible cords of ax24. People innovate when they can keep the fruits of their innovation.

From communism: the redistribution insight — accumulation without reset produces the inequality cascade leading to BABL — provides the life-friendly cord through periodic recalibration. Unlimited accumulation violates life-friendly and is therefore self-destructive.

What neither arrived at: periodic reset that preserves the incentive structure between rounds while resetting accumulated advantage at each round. This is the Jubilee — Lev 25 predating both ideologies by millennia.

The Jubilee is therefore not a compromise between the two ideologies but the logical resolution of the life-trifecta: all three cords satisfied simultaneously. It is what ax24-compliant governance looks like in practice, and what ax25 formalizes as a requirement for any self-sustaining innovation economy.

Note

The specific mechanism for how Jubilee cycles should be organized for a modern innovation economy is a separate research question, noted in this text as connected to LLoL’s broader work. The axiom set establishes the necessity of the recalibration principle (ax25); the specific implementation is future work.
