Participation DICT#

How people take part in building ResearchCity — the ways of joining the work, and the human posture they grow toward. See the Buy In page for the contribution framework (the voluntary ~$8 buy-in and the per-person cap) that these roles attach to.

Backer#

Someone who supports the work financially — the voluntary ~$8 buy-in, up to the per-person cap. Backing is itself a way of taking part; a Backer need not engage any further. (The capped, resourcing form of participation.)

See: Participant, Sojourner, Contributor.

Contributor#

Anyone who contributes real content to the work — a theory, a refutation, an analysis, an artifact — beyond reading or backing. A Contributor need not be a Backer or a Sojourner (someone may develop an important result without following any one focus area). (The creating form of participation.)

See: Participant, Backer, Sojourner.

Homo transiens#

The crossing-over, journeying human — defined in contrast to Homo “sapiens,” the know-it-all that assesses itself as OK (arrived). Every Backer, Sojourner, and Contributor is on the way to becoming Homo transiens: one who keeps moving from worse toward better and never claims arrival — the NoToK posture, walking the ZION cycle.

See: NoToK, OK, ZION, Participant.

Participant#

The union of all who take part in building ResearchCity — by backing, sojourning, or contributing, in any combination — working together on the narrow path. Participation does not require all three roles: a Backer participates financially, a Sojourner by engaging, a Contributor by creating; any one of these is already taking part.

See: Backer, Sojourner, Contributor, Homo transiens.

Sojourner#

Anyone who engages with the deep-water questions of a research focus area in any way — including learners who do not (yet) back financially. A fellow traveler on the narrow path: the journey out of BABL toward ZION. (The attending, learning form of participation.)

See: Participant, Homo transiens, ZION.
