Every functioning society needs people in all seven roles. Each role
is a different way of contributing to the whole, and each faces a
specific :ref:`BABL <babl-1st-intro>` temptation that can corrupt
the contribution. The roles are named after the seven nations of
Canaan, reinterpreted as functional archetypes.
