e7Ch --- Introduction
****************************************************

Innovation adoption follows seven stages, from first release to the
decisive question: grind on toward commoditized decline, or reset
through a Jubilee cycle? Each stage is named after one of the seven
churches of Revelation, reinterpreted as functional milestones in a
self-stabilizing innovation process.

Each stage faces the same :ref:`BABL <babl-1st-intro>` temptation
pattern as the corresponding :ref:`Track Role <e7tr-1st-intro>` and
:ref:`Hero Journey stage <e7he-1st-intro>`: the same structural
challenge appears in the individual, social, and economic domains.

The Seven Stages
==================

.. _e7ch-eph-1st-intro:

Stage 1 --- EPH: EPHesus (NextRelease, Innovate Aphesis4Jubilee)
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

**Binary:** 001 = --- --- :ref:`BA <babl-ba-1st-intro>`

**The stage:** A new release enters the world. This is innovation at
its freshest --- an idea, product, or solution that did not exist
before. The word "Aphesis" means release or forgiveness; the
innovation carries the seed of Jubilee renewal, a fresh start.

**The BABL temptation:** :ref:`BA <babl-ba-1st-intro>` alone ---
oversimplify. Rush the release. Skip the testing. Declare the
innovation "done" before it has been tried. The pressure to ship
fast and claim first-mover advantage kills quality before it has a
chance to develop.

answer the call) |
:ref:`AMO <e7tr-amo-1st-intro>` (the leader who must champion
innovation without oversimplifying it) |
Next: :ref:`SMY <e7ch-smy-1st-intro>`

.. _e7ch-smy-1st-intro:

Stage 2 --- SMY: SMYrna (TrialByFire, TestEndure)
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

**Binary:** 010 = --- :ref:`ASH <babl-ash-1st-intro>` ---

**The stage:** The innovation faces its first real test. Users try it,
competitors attack it, edge cases appear. Only what endures the trial
survives to the next stage. This is the furnace that separates genuine
innovation from hype.

**The BABL temptation:** :ref:`ASH <babl-ash-1st-intro>` alone ---
overcomplicate. The trial is hard, but ASH makes it seem impossible
by multiplying the obstacles. "We need more testing." "We need more
features." "We need more process." Endless complication that prevents
the innovation from ever being declared ready.

trial through training) |

risk without amplifying it) |

Next: :ref:`PER <e7ch-per-1st-intro>`

.. _e7ch-per-1st-intro:

Stage 3 --- PER: PERgamon (LikeMarriage, ScaleUp Rise Commercialize)
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

**Binary:** 011 = --- :ref:`ASH <babl-ash-1st-intro>` :ref:`BA <babl-ba-1st-intro>`

**The stage:** Commitment. Scaling up is like a marriage: it requires
dedication beyond initial excitement. The innovation must be
commercialized --- made available to more people, produced reliably,
supported consistently. This is where startups become companies.

**The BABL temptation:** :ref:`ASH <babl-ash-1st-intro>` +
:ref:`BA <babl-ba-1st-intro>` --- overcomplicate the scaling process
AND oversimplify the product. "Just ship it" (BA) while building
ever-more-complex infrastructure (ASH). The result: a bloated
organization selling a shallow product.

**See also:** :ref:`GAT <e7he-gat-1st-intro>` (the hero holding
early advantage without being captured) |
:ref:`CAN <e7tr-can-1st-intro>` (the trader who must scale
fairly) |
Prev: :ref:`SMY <e7ch-smy-1st-intro>` |
Next: :ref:`THY <e7ch-thy-1st-intro>`

.. _e7ch-thy-1st-intro:

Stage 4 --- THY: THYatira (SmellsLikeTest, Refine OpenCore Rules)
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

**Binary:** 100 = :ref:`MOL <babl-mol-1st-intro>` --- ---

**The stage:** Deep quality testing. The innovation has scaled, and
now the core rules that govern it must be refined. What works? What
seemed to work but doesn't? This is the stage where the innovation
"smells like a test" --- it is being probed deeply, not just used.
Open core rules are established: the principles that will govern the
innovation going forward.

**The BABL temptation:** :ref:`MOL <babl-mol-1st-intro>` alone ---
overreach. The temptation is to cut corners on testing, to declare
quality "good enough" and rush to monetization. Or to overreach the
standards: setting rules so strict that no one can comply, creating
a testing regime that serves the testers rather than the innovation.

**See also:** :ref:`MYM <e7he-mym-1st-intro>` (the hero facing
infinity with humility) |
:ref:`PHE <e7tr-phe-1st-intro>` (the expert who must judge
without overreaching) |
Prev: :ref:`PER <e7ch-per-1st-intro>` |
Next: :ref:`SAR <e7ch-sar-1st-intro>`

.. _e7ch-sar-1st-intro:

Stage 5 --- SAR: SARdes (Monetizing, MassMarketGraciously)
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

**Binary:** 101 = :ref:`MOL <babl-mol-1st-intro>` --- :ref:`BA <babl-ba-1st-intro>`

**The stage:** The innovation reaches the mass market. Monetization
happens at scale. The challenge is to do this graciously --- to earn
revenue without destroying what made the innovation valuable. This
is where the tension between profit and purpose is sharpest.

**The BABL temptation:** :ref:`MOL <babl-mol-1st-intro>` +
:ref:`BA <babl-ba-1st-intro>` --- overreach monetization AND
oversimplify the product for mass consumption. "Maximize revenue"
(MOL) by "dumbing it down" (BA). The mass market gets a pale shadow
of the original innovation, and the innovators get rich by betraying
their own creation.

**See also:** :ref:`LUC <e7he-luc-1st-intro>` (the hero receiving
reward without entitlement) |
:ref:`JEB <e7tr-jeb-1st-intro>` (the administrator who serves
with empathy) |
Prev: :ref:`THY <e7ch-thy-1st-intro>` |
Next: :ref:`PHI <e7ch-phi-1st-intro>`

.. _e7ch-phi-1st-intro:

Stage 6 --- PHI: PHIladelphia (LoveTheLike, SeekNiche TruthResearch)
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

**Binary:** 110 = :ref:`MOL <babl-mol-1st-intro>` :ref:`ASH <babl-ash-1st-intro>` ---

**The stage:** The innovation finds its true niche through genuine
research. The community that loves the product for what it truly is
--- not for its hype or its mass-market version --- gathers around
it. Philadelphia means "brotherly love": this is the stage where
the innovation finds its genuine family.

**The BABL temptation:** :ref:`MOL <babl-mol-1st-intro>` +
:ref:`ASH <babl-ash-1st-intro>` --- overreach the niche into a
cult (MOL) AND overcomplicate the research into impenetrable
jargon (ASH). The true believers become gatekeepers who exclude
rather than include.

**See also:** :ref:`RES <e7he-res-1st-intro>` (the hero bringing
back the gift without losing it to grandiosity) |
:ref:`HIV <e7tr-hiv-1st-intro>` (the searcher who builds with
unbiased logic) |
Prev: :ref:`SAR <e7ch-sar-1st-intro>` |
Next: :ref:`LAO <e7ch-lao-1st-intro>`

.. _e7ch-lao-1st-intro:

Stage 7 --- LAO: LAOdicea (CrowdJustice, JustifyGeneric GrindOrJubilee)
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

**Binary:** 111 = :ref:`MOL <babl-mol-1st-intro>` :ref:`ASH <babl-ash-1st-intro>` :ref:`BA <babl-ba-1st-intro>`

**The stage:** The final choice. The innovation has been through
everything: release, trial, commitment, testing, monetization, and
niche-finding. Now it faces full :ref:`BABL <babl-1st-intro>`.
CrowdJustice: the crowd decides whether the innovation lives or
dies. The generic version has commoditized; margins are thin;
everyone is tired. Two paths remain:

- **Grind:** Accept commoditization. The innovation becomes generic,
margins shrink to zero, and the cycle ends in irrelevance.
- **Jubilee:** Reset. Use the accumulated insight to seed a new cycle
of genuine innovation. The innovation dies in its current form but
is reborn in a higher form --- the next EPH.

**The BABL temptation:** Full :ref:`BABL <babl-1st-intro>` --- all
three simultaneously. :ref:`BA <babl-ba-1st-intro>` says "just keep
grinding." :ref:`ASH <babl-ash-1st-intro>` says "it's too complicated
to restart." :ref:`MOL <babl-mol-1st-intro>` says "we've invested too
much to let go." Only the courage to choose Jubilee --- to let the
old form die so the new can be born --- breaks the cycle of decline.
