The resulting toxicity is not a bug; it is the business model. And yet --- LLoL can also perfectly understand why these platforms do what they do. In the absence of a viable alternative, maximizing engagement is the only way to survive in the attention economy. The engineers building these systems are not evil. They are trapped in the same work-logic cascades that this entire site is trying to help humanity escape. **ResearchCity is about constructing such an alternative.** If you care about social media toxicity --- if you want a world where information systems serve truth rather than engagement --- then the most meaningful action you can take is to :doc:`buy in ` to help build the infrastructure that stands a real chance replace the BABL machine with something gentle kind reasonable.
